My Journey to the Commonwealth Games Part 2

CARRARA SPORTS & LEISURE CENTRE

CARRARA SPORTS & LEISURE CENTRE- COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2018 GOLDCOAST

The Journey continues….

Not long now. The Commonwealth Games commence on the 4th April and I’ll be flying to the Gold Coast to commence my work on the 7th April until the 15th April.

I am so lucky with my allocation because I’ll be working at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.  This means that not only will I be spared the weather by being indoors (QLD humidity and rain) but also I’ll be in the middle of the action.

What action do you ask?

These are the sports that I will be looking after:

Gadminton GC
BADMINTON
para powerlifting GC
PARA POWERLIFTING
weightlifting GC
WEIGHTLIFTING
wrestling GC
WRESTLING

So not only will I be treating athletes from any country of the Commonwealth behind the scenes at the medical facility created in the centre, but I will also be there at the competition and medals time.

The shifts will be long (10-hour shifts) and I’ve been given 6 shifts, so I’m guessing while being excited about being in the middle of everything, I’m going to also be exhausted.

The pre-training that has been provided to all the medical volunteers has been awesome.  We’ve had extensive       on-line training since last year and most recently face to face training on the Goldcoast going through protocols, medical scenarios, logistics, code of conduct etc.  It’s been full-on and intense.  For a long time, it’s just been a thought at the back of my mind, but now it’s real and coming up so quickly.

So, the next time I post, I’ll be in the thick of things.

I can’t wait for this most amazing experience.
